Selfridges Birmingham is strengthening its reputation as a retail destination with sustainability at its heart, with the launch of an aftercare service that provides bespoke repair for shoes, bags and leather goods.
The Restory, who provide aftercare for luxury goods, will be opening on Monday 9th March on Level 4 enabling customers to take their bags, shoes or luggage to be repaired and revived by their in-house team of artisans.
The on-demand service brings together talented artisans whose aim is to make you fall in love with your favourite pieces all over again. Clients are invited to drop off any items in-store where they will be collected by The Restory and taken to their atelier. Clients will be sent a confirmation of receipt and following a physical assessment will receive a bespoke quote of recommended services available. The digitised quote is sent to the client where they are able to edit, decline or remove services. Once the services have been approved work will commence and be completed by hand.
The Restory offers a wide range of services for items such as handbags, from colour and leather restoration to specialist cleaning and re-stitching as well as remaking handles. Their experts can transform shoes with simple repairs such as recovering heels and replacing soles to restoring and removing scuffs and scratches as well as unique techniques to remove even the toughest stains.
Vanessa Jacobs, Founder and CEO of The Restory, said: “We enable consumers to invest confidently in the brands they love. Knowing one has the support structure to fall in love with their investments again and again inspires mindful, and more sustainable, fashion consumption. As one of the world’s most forward-thinking retailers, Selfridges has been leading sustainability as an integral part of the fashion experience. We’re thrilled to join the Selfridges ecosystem and to work toward a world where owning is as much a part of the fashion experience as buying it to begin with.
Sam Watts, General Manager of Selfridges Birmingham, said: “Sustainability is central to Selfridges’ ethos and informing everything we do, from sourcing ethical brands and collections to ensuring that we are responsible when it comes to waste and recycling.”
“We know that customers buy their designer pieces as investments and they want to be able to enjoy them for as long as possible. Having access to the services of The Restory enables them to increase the longevity of their shoes, bags and trainers, which is not only good for the consumer, it’s also good for the planet. Welcoming The Restory to the department store fits in perfectly with our aims for a more sustainable world.”
Selfridges is already 100% powered by green electricity and it was the first department store in the UK to achieve The Carbon Trust Triple Standard.
